Beyond Me
~for Oklahoma City

The insurance forms
will call this an Act of God,
as an elementary school
explodes in a tornado.

Yet, the reverend says
that God goes
beyond all human
understanding.

All I want to do
is scream at the sky
until my lungs fold up
and my throat collapses.

But when they pull
a car off a teacher
in the parking lot
who used her body,

the last thing she had left,
to shield three children,
love like that, also goes beyond
all human understanding.

Then all I want to do
is stand up and help
and thankfully,
there's no need
for a reason
as to why.
