FRONT OF LETTER:
October 4
El mio cid,
I’m just back from the corner liquor store. A ten year old rang me up for four miller lites, union made, and a turkey & swiss on white bread. Seven dollars and thirty cents.
I’m back in my room, and playing Bruce Springsteen while my roommates try to jam witheir white, lesbian asses: sax, piano, guitar.
I find myself here, I think, pushing against the Cali/east coast dominance. Best I can do is drink miller, listen to the boss, hank jr, and mojo dixon, and dream about driving a fast V8 on some desert straightaway.
What other PNW heritage do I carry with me that hasn’t been co-opted by co-ops. ha.
Ordered a pair of cowboy boots in the mail. kind my daddy wears. We’ll see, when they arrive, how often I can actually wear them. Bruce just finished, Factory, Streets of Fire, Darkness on the edge of town. A good set for that intro, specially aftre getting home from work after 9 o clock. its a working life, says bruce, and it appears so far that he’s rifht, either making croissants all morning or sitting hunched at a computer screen. pretty much it seems to run my life. I wonder if I would get out of bed without it.

CAITLIN:
A year old this note. Sometimes I look at and smile. Today I found a postcard you sent me. Seems like it might be time to send it on its way.
Your Friend,
JD
