Vasmou (aka Alexandros Vasmoulakis) is a multifaceted Greek artist whose collections span painting, collage, street installations, and street wall art featured on buildings around the world. In this feature, we focus on his Buildings collection of works. In addition to adapting a style all his own, these works differ from many other street artists with his use of a wide array of mediums including ink, acrylic, spray paint and sequins on vinyl. In this body of work he describes the pieces as a “Pseudo-Advertising Series.”

Although his murals can be found throughout the globe, most are created in Athens, Greece where the political restrictions are fairly loose granting permission to legally paint in a public domain. Part of his process is “destroying in order to create,” where most of his work features flamboyant characters born from fragments of other faces, primarily glamour magazines. Using a collage technique, he pieces together his subjects, bringing them to life.

The following pieces were in collaboration with graphic artist Paris Koutsikos: “Brilliant,” “If,” “Perfect,” and “Marie I (Still) Love You.”

“The Slacker” was created in collaboration with Paris Koutsikos and Andonis Kyriakoulis.
