Artist Feature: Fernando Carpaneda
"Speak of freedom, of being what you are, without fear."
Editor’s Note:
The work of particularly skilled artists can create life out of the medium. Fernando Carpaneda masterfully demonstrates this through his paintings and sculpture. This week showcases his phenomenal series of portraiture, featuring masculinity in a variety of expressions. Some of the subjects playfully grin at and incite the viewer, while others are more stoic, conveying deep sorrow and strength.
Through Carpaneda's realistically rendered artwork, the energy and emotions of his models are captured in striking detail. Relationship dynamics between subject and painter, subject and subject, and subject and viewer open a window to masculine intimacy. The backgrounds compliment each portrait, at times dream like and serene, others depicting street art and cityscapes.
Our next feature will focus on Carpaneda's carefully crafted sculptural works.

Fernando Carpaneda
My paintings are experimental works on material and feelings. Most of my paintings are portraits of friends, ex-lovers, sex workers and random guys.
My goal with my art is to show other sides within the LGBTQI+ culture and society in general. By that I mean, to open the minds of the audience to other possibilities within gay and contemporary art. My works speak of freedom, of being what you are, without fear of assuming your ideas and ideals.
