Artist Feature: Aron Demetz

...transformation of matter expressed through the human figure.

SLIDER1.jpg

The charcoal and distressed wood sculptures created by Aron Demetz explore the natural processes in the transformation of matter expressed through the human figure. He uses combustion, oxidation, natural resins and even the occurrence of fungi to pull forth the human relationship with nature, demonstrating the frailty of life through nature, evoking a primordial experience for the viewer.

Utilizing traditional wood carving techniques, Demetz then chars or distresses his sculptures, exposing smooth gentle surfaces alongside frayed and raw textures, revealing the “Truth” in his pieces.

“For me, the act of burning is so important; for what remains is Truth, clear and unmistakably raw. It’s a way of not only being clear and unequivocal, but a means by which one reverts back to zero.”
