"a curious universe of ineffable charm"

SLIDER1.jpg

One possible definition of human being: a featherless biped who only knows that he or she knows nothing. Even still, at any time and place, after satisfying our basic needs, we invent ways to entertain ourselves during our passage through this world. Some convert to religion, others pole-dance without clothes; you can go to bars or to the hairdresser, eat boiled lobsters. We invent worlds, write novels and poems, play music, make pictures… As unnecessary or arbitrary as it all is, we are so lucky. So lucky.

The human condition is both beautiful and mysterious. Pierre Schmidt reminds me of this as I explore his mind-bending imagery. He creates a curious universe of ineffable charm, his subjects following their own natural laws, with kind orders and disorders of colors and shapes. Peer into another time, another space, where the featherless biped just might know everything.
